Computer technologies dominate the globe. Most of our planet’s daily life is administered
by them. Now the marine industry is facing its own computerised future.
For those prepared to embrace the opportunity and advantage which technology presents,
The benefits are incalculable.
- Technology provides an opportunity to ensure excellence in all aspects of marine
operations, not least in Vessel Management.
- Properly configured technology provides an infallible and limitless number of ‘crew’ to
assist in the optimum management and operation of your vessel.
- Control everything from the ship’s systems to matching the paint on a spare part.
Why vessel management software?
- All maintenance work can be carried out according to individual manufacturer’s
advice. This will greatly reduce system failures
- Repair work can be completed quicker, because all necessary information is
instantly available
- All paper documentation can be incorporated into the database system. You will no
longer lose important documents, because you can print copies and use them
during the dirtiest part of any repair work
- Photos taken during the construction, or refit, which can be inter-linked with the
database, help you when planning refit and repair work
- Monitoring spare parts on board is easy: You always have the right part when you
need it
- Order spare parts by sending the correct information quickly (e.g. via internet or
fax). This will get you the correct part in minimum time
- Co-operation with the yard can be simplified. The contractor can get a copy of the
data with the entire vessel’s specific information, on demand
- Data Transfer to the shore office, vessel manager, owner or accountant is as simple
as sending an email.
- A complete service history for every item can answer a lot of interesting questions:
- What type of paint was put on this part the last time?
- When was this bearing replaced?
- Who repaired this specific piece of equipment during the last refit?
- Was the last oil change for the generator carried out on time?
- Having a complete database of all services and changes implemented on your
vessel since delivery can be very positive, as far as the resale price of the vessel is
concerned.
- A computer-based Safety-Management-System (SMS) can save time and
paperwork if you choose to, or have to, comply with the ISM code.
- Bringing new or temporary crew up to date with current information about the ship’s
systems takes much less time.
- Last but not least: IDEA VIO can be customised to your demands, so you can have great
influence on the development of the system for your vessel.
Network & Multiple Users
IDEA VIO can be used by several users simultaneously. It will keep track of which change
is made when and by whom. Installation is either possible in a client server (with dedicated
server) or peer-to-peer environment (one workstation is the server).
IDEA VIO has a built-in security system that allows data to be viewed or changed by
authorised users only.
The program features four user levels:
- Master : In charge of everything
- Primary Crew (Engineer, Deck) : No access to certain administrative tools,
bookkeeping database and crew & guest database
- Secondary Crew (2nd Engineer, 2nd Deck, Accountant, Chef, Stewardess) : Have
similar access as primary crew and do also have their own domains inside the
technical and inventory database but may not program or modify the maintenance
plan
- Guests: Read only access
All data inside the IDEA VIO program can easily be transferred to the owner or vessel manager ashore.
It is as simple as transferring a file (IdeaData.mdb) via Email or floppy disk (approx. file
size 800 KB). Data can be imported- or exported from and to IDEA VIO, in and from many
different formats:
- Microsoft Excel
- Any ODBC Database
- Comma Separated File etc
Mobile Marine Technology can carry out the data import and system population for you,
guaranteeing that the data in, is accurate and ensuring that the data out is what you
require.
